It was my first time attending the PrimeGlobal World Summit in Bangkok, and it did not disappoint.

I had the privilege of representing Malaysia during the panel session on “Emerging Global Supply Chain Hot Destination: ASEAN.” It was refreshing to see familiar faces and connect with new ones, all focused on helping our firms and clients step up to what’s ahead

The biggest takeaway for me wasn’t from a single session or slide. It was the clarity of where we must go, and how urgently we must act.

A Blueprint for the Future

PrimeGlobal – the association of advisory and accounting firms “Ready for Business” strategy lays out a powerful framework:

·        Building firm capacity

·        Driving business opportunities

·        Activating our community

These aren’t just conference themes. They’re a call to modernise, collaborate, and support each other across borders and generations.

At Syarikat Ong, we’re internalising this as we rethink how we hire, what we offer, and where we want to grow next.

Compliance Isn’t Enough Anymore

One takeaway was especially personal: in the face of AI and automation, our traditional compliance-based services are no longer enough.

Clients no longer come to us just to get things done and stay compliant. They come seeking clarity, direction, and strategic foresight. And that means moving more boldly toward advisory, not as an add-on, but as a core offering.

This shift doesn’t happen overnight. It takes re-skilling, rethinking, and re-aligning with what truly adds value to the people we serve.

Why Domestic Confidence Matters

A thought-provoking moment came during a session that highlighted Visa’s Spending Momentum Index across Asia. Despite strong FDI and GDP growth, Malaysia showed signs of contraction in consumer spending.

Why the disconnect? It could be the nature of foreign investments like data centres, which generate less spill over into jobs or local spending. Or it could reflect more cautious consumer sentiment at home.Whatever the cause, it reminded me that economic headlines don’t always tell the full story. Real growth, the kind that touches communities, starts with stronger domestic confidence, more robust local businesses, and everyday decisions made with optimism.

A Personal Checkpoint

If we want to be ready for 2030, it’s not enough to just keep up. We need to lead. That means strengthening our advisory, using digital tools wisely, and helping each other build businesses that last.

Let’s get moving.
