I find myself reflecting on a year that was as challenging as it was enlightening. At Syarikat Ong, we recognized that simply bouncing back in 2022 wasn’t enough. We needed to evolve in 2023. The new employment act presented headwinds, reminding us that in our industry, traditionally centred around human effort, the rise of IT and AI can no longer be overlooked.
Reflections on 2023: Relevance
Our staff, the backbone of our company, needed more than just compensation. We embarked on a journey of shared visions, dreams, and at times, vulnerability. Our focus shifted towards creating an environment where our team members could grow with the company, feel valued, and above all, remain relevant.
On a personal front, as a working mother of two, relevance took on a different dimension. It was about being there in ways that mattered, understanding their world, and ensuring I didn’t take their presence for granted.
Leap
Syarikat Ong, at the age of 49, carried both the weight and wisdom of its years. At times, it felt like driving with a handbrake on – aware of our potential but constrained by legacy.
Looking toward 2024, our 50th year, our vision is clear: to combine the agility of a young startup with the heritage and wisdom accrued over five decades. It’s time to release the handbrake and leap forward. Our focus will be on digitalisation and leveraging technology, balancing it with the ongoing development of our staff and maintaining harmony in our personal lives.
It’s about becoming a new version of ourselves – one that resonates with the times, our staff, our clients, and our families. Here’s to 2024, a new chapter where we aim to leap ahead, blending tradition with innovation, and heart with ambition. Here’s to becoming a newer, better version of ourselves – one that’s as relevant tomorrow as it is today.
